Domaine Valcros, Banyuls Rimage 2023 (50cl)

Domaine Valcros is located in the picturesque Mediterranean fishing town of Collioure, a stone's throw away from France's border with Spain. The warm, maritime climate makes Domaine Valcros perfectly placed to produce exceptional, fruit-driven wines in what is France's most southerly wine region. Banyuls Rimage 2023 is essentially France's answer to Port. Made from a blend of mainly Grenache with some Carignan, the grapes begin fermentation and after a short time grape spirit is added which both fortifies the wine and stops the fermentation process whilst the grape must still has plenty of sugar - much like Port. It is packed with notes of raisin, prune, stewed blackcurrant and a touch of sweet-spice. An excellent dessert wine and one which pairs really well with blue cheese.
